Movies can generate money through various revenue streams, but the most important indicator of a movie’s success or failure is how much it grosses at the box office. The number one highest grossing film to ever hit theaters is 1939’s Gone with the Wind which earned more than $3.5 billion. This is after adjusting for inflation, of course.
But that’s not what you’re here for. You’re looking for what films raked in the most green regardless of fluctuating currencies. Surprisingly, of our list of the 15 highest box office earners, only one of them wasn’t released within the last decade!
